Rebkor Korats

Rebkor is a small CFA cattery located in central Virginia, established in 2015.  We specialize in the Korat (Si-Sawat) cat from Thailand.

The korat is believed to have originated in the Si-Sawat province of Thailand.  Since the korat was mentioned in the Tamra Maew, an ancient book of cat poems, it is considered to be one of the original ten cat breeds.  The korat is therefore a natural breed, it was not engineered by man.

The korat is a rare cat in Thailand, and is known as the Good Luck Cat.  They are given in male/female pairs to newlyweds as wedding gifts.  Since the color of the korat coat resembles a rain cloud, they are also used in rain ceremonies, paraded around with the hope to bring rains to help the primary crop, rice.

It is also important to note that the only cats that can be considered a korat are those that can trace their lineage to Thailand.

Since the korat is from a warm climate, it has a single coat, and as a result you'll find that a korat doesn't shed like other breeds.  Many believe that the korat is hypoallergenic, but this is false.  People are allergic to the skin cells that are shed from a cat that are covered in their saliva.

The korat coat color in CFA is defined as silver tipped blue.  The base of each fur is silver, then it changes to blue, and is silver again at the tip of the fur.  As a korat ages the coat will get lighter as the amount of silver tipping at the end of each fur increases.  Many say that the silver tipping gives the cat a shimmering halo effect.

The korat should have large, luminous peridot green eyes.  The color can vary a bit from a light peridot to a vivid peridot.  The korat eye shape is round when wide open, yet has an asian slant when relaxed.  All korats are born with blue eyes that should gradually change from an amber color to a shade of peridot. Occassionally, a korat will never achieve a peridot green eye color, and these cats are typically placed as pets.

The korat is a well muscled cat.  When you pick up a korat, it should feel heavier than you expected.  Their muscular bodies are also said to feel like a well coiled spring when you pic them up.  They have a broad chest, are well boned, almost stocky.  Their bodies should be semi cobby, this is neither long or short.

The korat is also known for having a heart shaped head,  The five heart shaped can be found as follows: look at the head straight on from the front, look down on the head from above, look at the nose of the korat, look at the broad chest, and finally the one inside.

The korat that started them all for Rebkor was a pet korat, Raja, who was acquired from Cheryl and Perry Coleman in the summer of 2003.

Rebkor's first CFA registered korat was GC GP RW Mowl Sima's Now What? (Missy) who was adopted from Cheryl and Perry Coleman of Mowl Sima in 2010.  Missy started to show again late in the 2014 show season, and with the mentoring of the Coleman's placed 13th in the region in Premiership.  In 2015, Missy finished 8th Regionally, 26th Nationally (not bad for an 11 year old korat).

In July of 2016, we traveled to Poland to pick up the female kitten who became Rebkor's foundation queen, Sezerp's Frangelica of Rebkor.  Frani was born on February 15, 2016.  Frani's first litter was born in July of 2016.

In May of 2017 we acquired a female korat kitten from Shirley and Kimberly Graham.  Misticblue's Arya of Rebkor.  Arya had her first litter in April of 2018.

The plan is to have a litter of kittens a year for each female.  The timing may vary based upon how frequently they come into heat.
